Clearview baseball standout Ryan Vargo signs National Letters of Intent to Tiffin
Clearview High School senior baseball player Ryan Vargo officially signed his NCAA Letter of Intent during a press conference inside the CHS auditorium Thursday (November 15) afternoon. The 2011 co-MVP of the Clippers and All-Patriot Athletic Conference first team selection will continue his education and athletic career at Tiffin University.

Thursday afternoon’s announcement was the culmination of a lengthy and often exhausting process that has become common to student-athletes who are looking to extend their athletic careers to the collegiate level. Vargo was joined by his family, former baseball coaches and a small audience of his peers for the once-in-a-lifetime event.

“Ryan epitomize the term student-athlete,” said Athletics Director Dan May. “He not only excels at athletics but continually represents Clearview in a positive manner. He has the tools both athletically and academically to succeed at the collegiate level, and I look forward to watching him lead the Clipper baseball team again this spring before moving onto Tiffin University next fall.”

Vargo, a two-year lettermen, split time as a pitcher and catcher in 2012. The right-hander went 3-2 with 42 strikeouts and a 3.13 earned run average in 31 2/3 innings while also hitting .415 with six doubles, four triples and 22 RBI as a junior.

"It was a really tough decision as I had contacts from a lot of schools but I felt a really good connection with Coach Wilkins and the program he is trying to build," Vargo said. "I think he is going to be a guy that will help me succeed and ultimately give me a chance to accomplish all of my baseball aspirations."

Tiffin University is a NCAA Division II school located in Tiffin, Ohio. The Dragons compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Tiffin, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Joe Wilkins, is coming off a 25-26 season in 2012.

"I would like congratulate Ryan on his signing with Tiffin University, Clearview Head Coach Dennis Pihlblad said. "Tiffin will be getting a young man who definitely loves the game of baseball and who works very hard at being the best he can be."

Clearview baseball, under the leadership of Pihlblad, finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 13-12. The Clippers finished runner-up in the PAC Stripes Division title before capturing the OHSAA Sectional Championship. Clearview opens the season at home against Trinity High School on March 30, 2013.
