Who participates in Blizzard Bags?
Only Durling Middle School students will receive Blizzard Bag assignments due to their extra Calamity Day.
What are Blizzard Bags?
Blizzard bags are not actually bags at all! They are 1 assignment per class per day being made up with Blizzard Bags.
These are practical assignments that allow learning opportunities that are ideally independent, hands-on, and experiential (ex. independent reading for 30 minutes; accelerated math; supporting work for current assignments).
When will we receive Blizzard Bags and when are they due?
Released to students April 14th; Due April 25th
Are Blizzard Bags graded?
Yes, Blizzard Bags will be graded and reviewed by teachers. They will be scored pass/fail according to the grading scale. These scores could be entered into the gradebook determined my the teacher. They will be utilized to equate to attendance.
A pass score equates to a "present" record in attendance and a "fail" score equates to an absence record for attendance. A grade can also be taken for the work.
I am hearing there is an 80% rule, what does that mean?
The Ohio Department of Education confirmed with us there is no 80% completion rule in the state of Ohio for Blizzard Bags to count for attendance.
My child has perfect attendance so far, what does this mean for them?
If your student completes and passes the Blizzard Bags, they will continue to have perfect attendance.
Can I use vacation days instead of completing Blizzard Bags?
No you cannot use vacation days to be excused from Blizzard Bags.
If my child does not complete the work what will happen?
Ohio Revised Code [ORC 3313.88(A)(d)] gives districts and schools the option of issuing an “incomplete or failing grade if a lesson is not completed on time.” What happens to a student’s incomplete grade?
Districts and schools should follow their adopted policies/procedures for incomplete's.
Each student enrolled in a course for which a lesson is posted on the portal or site shall be granted a two-week period from the date of posting to complete the lesson. The student's classroom teacher shall grade the lesson in the same manner as other lessons. The student may receive an incomplete or failing grade if the lesson is not completed on time.
